Stagecoach, 1966: I love this movie. I love the original with John Wayne, but this one is great in its own right.

5 1966 Stagecoach
Posted by Marcia on 31st Jan 2018
I often wondered why this 1966 Stagecoach was in such demand that they didn't make more DVD's. Amazon's DVD was over $100. So when I saw it on Classic Movies I jumped on the chance to own it. We always loved this version.

5 Stagcoach, 1966

I have waied a very long time to try and rent this classic westernmovie from Netflix, finally gave up and bought it. Top flight cast, all big name stars of the era, with Alex Cord playing the John Wayne role from the original movie. Binb Crosby is a good alcoholic doctor, and the very young Ann-Margaret is a convincing dancehall "hostess", a description which they cleaned up a bit from her character in the original, where she was a prostitute. And Clim Pickinsas the driver was a great subsitute for Andy Devine's role in the original. The storyline is pretty faithful to the original, including the one long high speed chase by Indians. What I had forgotten was all of the scene setting of the main characters and why they were on board and their interaction with each other. This movie has sometimes been described as a land version of the movie "Ship of Fools", and after seeing it again after a very long time, I have to agree. I had also forgotten how "talky" it is, with just two main action scenes: the chase by Indians, and the finale with Alex Cord shooting it out with the bad guy, Keenan Wynne. STill, it was great fun to see this great cast once again lurching and bouncing along in the Stagecoach.

5 Improving on a Classic!
Posted by Dave on 21st Jun 2017
and now, I've seen both the original Classic... and its worthy successor. This second version, from 1966, is in glorious color... as the original should have been. Find the time to see 'em both; it's worth the effort.

I was a little disappointed that it wasn't in 5.1 Dolby digital, but otherwise well pleased.
